About Hokkaido and Japan
What should I wear during my trip?
It depends on when you plan to visit. Hokkaido has 4 distinct seasons, and the appropriate clothing can be roughly summarized as follows:

Spring (Apr to May): Temperature ranges from 5℃ to 20℃. Daytime is warm but nights are chilly. Wear a light coat/jacket or sweater on top of your regular clothes.

Summer (Jun to Aug): Temperature ranges from 15℃ to 30℃. You can wear just T-shirts, shorts or jeans, sneakers, etc. The nights can still get cold, so bring an extra jacket just in case.

Autumn (Sep to Oct): Temperature ranges from 5℃ to 20℃. Wear a light coat/jacket or sweater on top of your regular clothes. You may also need to wear winter accessories in case it gets cold.

Winter (Nov to Mar): Temperature ranges from -20℃ to 5℃. Wear thermal underwear, a heavy coat/jacket, winter shoes/boots, hats, gloves, etc. Multiple layers are recommended since it may be warm indoors.

Since Hokkaido is a vast island, we also recommend checking the weather forecast for the specific area you plan to visit.
Do I need to tip during my trip?
Basically, tipping is not necessary in Japan, and you may be refused if you try to pay a tip. Just showing your respectful appreciation and gratitude for the service is enough. If you really want to give something, it is probably better to give a small, non-monetary gift.
