Tree Sap Tapping Tour in the Snowy Forest

In this tour, you’ll go on a snowshoe trek into the depths of “Odoroki-no-Mori”, a 20-hectare secluded forest in Shiranuka Town. This forest is owned and managed by Yoshinori Yokota, a local producer and tour guide. Yokota-san will guide you into the snow-covered forest and tell you all about its flora and fauna. You’ll also get to try tapping sap from maple or walnut trees, which Yokota-san makes into syrup. After the snowshoe trek, you can enjoy a homemade lunch that includes pizza and a maple syrup fondue.
When you arrive at the Odoroki-no-Mori Labo forest house, you’ll put on your snowshoes to prepare for the trek. Make sure to wear warm winter clothing and waterproof hiking boots or long rubber boots.
Yokota-san will guide you into the quiet, snow-covered forest, and tell you all about its trees and wildlife. You can feel the great nature with all your senses.
After selecting a suitable maple or walnut tree, you can try drilling a hole into its trunk. If you’re lucky, you’ll immediately see the sap flow out from the hole. You’ll also see how Yokota-san collects the sap into a container.
After the snowshoe trek, you’ll go back to the forest house, where you’ll enjoy a delicious homemade lunch that includes coffee made with sap water, a maple syrup fondue, and freshly-baked homemade pizza.
