Ashoro Ezo Deer Leather Craft and Venison Lunch
This tour takes place in Ashoro Town and lets you experience Ezo deer through leather crafts and food. Join a workshop with a deer hide leatherworker to make your own leather coin purse, then enjoy a luxurious full course lunch with venison as the main course.
Highlights
- Learn about Ezo deer and how they are utilized as a resource
- Make your own leather coin purse together with a deer hide leatherworker
- Enjoy a French-style full course lunch course featuring venison
You will first visit Nisor Nitay, a leather workshop in Ashoro Town owned by Masami Sato. Sato-san makes use of the hide from deer culled by hunters in Ashoro to make various leather crafts and accessories.
In the workshop, Sato-san will tell you all about the ecology of Ezo deer and how they are used as a resource in Ashoro Town. Afterwards, he will teach you how to make your own simple coin purse made with deer leather. You can even customize it with your own name or other lettering. Besides coins, you can use it to keep earphones and small accessories.
After the workshop, you will move to Kobis Kitchen (Kobito no Daidokoro), a small but popular cafe/deli food shop built in an abandoned train station. Here you will enjoy a French-style full course lunch featuring local venison as the main dish. Compared to other meats, venison is high in protein and low in fat, and is also rich in iron, zinc, and B vitamins.
Note: Every guest must order at least one drink (not included in the tour fee).
