The Tokachi region of Hokkaido is known for its long straight roads and its scenic views of the Hidaka mountain range, making it a haven for cyclists. This guided cycling tour takes you on a ride around the town of Memuro to see patchwork farm fields and beautiful mountain scenery that is quintessential of Tokachi. You can also enjoy a sumptuous lunch at a local cafe.

Your tour guide for the day is Masanobu Oikawa of Tokachi Plus. Tokachi Plus offers various cycling tours that let you experience the food, scenery, and people of Memuro Town with all your senses, and this tour program is no exception.

The tour begins in the Kamibisei district in the outskirts of Memuro Town. After a brief orientation, you will start pedaling your bicycle along the wide open country roads. You will be using an electric bicycle, so even uphill roads should be a breeze.

Along the way, you will pass by farms and fields that stretch across the picturesque Tokachi countryside. You might even see large tractors working on the fields. You can stop anytime to take photos and enjoy the scenery.

All that pedaling will definitely make you hungry, so it’s time for a lunch break at a secluded and cozy cafe called Vindskov. You can choose from their lineup of sumptuous dishes they offer for the day.

After reenergizing yourself with a hearty lunch, you will head to the famous observation deck of the Shin-Arashiyama Sky Park. You will go through a slightly bumpy road surrounded by a forest, making for an authentic off-road cycling experience. You might even hear the chirping of the birds and the sound of the cicadas.

The observation deck is located at the end of a winding road going up to an altitude of 340 meters. This may sound like a tough uphill battle, but the motor of your electric bike will do most of the hard work for you.

As you reach the summit and step into the observation deck, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view overlooking the vast Tokachi plain. Take a break and enjoy the scenery, before riding back down to return to the starting point where the tour ends.
