Lake Shikaribetsu Canoeing and Nature Trekking

At an elevation of 810 meters, Lake Shikaribetsu is the highest lake in Hokkaido, and is a place of primeval nature. In this tour program, you will go on a trek through the forest on the lakeshore together with a nature guide, then go on a Canadian canoe ride across the tranquil lake. After enjoying the nature activities, you will visit a secluded cafe to enjoy a lunch made with local ingredients.
The Shikaribetsu Recreation Forest is a virgin forest spreading on the shore of Lake Shikaribetsu. Together with a nature guide, you will take a hike into the forest and experience its nature up close.
The forest teems with various flora and fauna. You can see the seasonal wild flowers and mushrooms, and listen to the sounds of wild birds and mammals.
After the forest hike, you will go on a Canadian canoe tour of the lake. The friendly guides of the Lake Shikaribetsu Nature Center will teach you how to paddle, so even beginners can enjoy it easily. You can see a rare view of the surrounding nature from the middle of the lake.
After enjoying the fun nature activities, you’ll visit Tomaru Cafe, a house renovated into a cafe and lodge. Here you can re-energize yourself with a sumptuous lunch featuring galette bretonne made from local soba buckwheat.
Note: If you are allergic to buckwheat, please let us know in advance so we can prepare a different menu.
