Tokachi Beans and Vegetable Farms Gastronomy Tour

The Tokachi region of Hokkaido is an agricultural kingdom that is a major producer of various crops and vegetables. In this one-day gastronomy tour, you will visit several farms and food producers in the towns of Kamishihoro and Memuro to experience the local farm life and discover the stories behind the excellent quality of Tokachi food. Highlights include a visit to a bean field, a spice blending activity, vegetable harvesting, and a delicious hamburger dinner.

Highlights

  • Experience farm work in a bean field and taste various beans
  • Try making your own blend of spices
  • Enjoy a lunch featuring delicious bean dishes
  • See a panoramic view of the vast Tokachi plain from an observatory
  • Try harvesting sweet corn or other seasonal vegetables
  • Savor a sumptuous hamburger dinner in the middle of a corn field

Your first stop is Sekiguchi Farm in Kamishihoro Town. The farm is known for its Oribe Beans brand started by Yoshiko Sekiguchi. Visit their bean fields and learn about bean cultivation while experiencing actual farm work. Afterwards, you can try eating some of their bean varieties while taking a break beside the bean fields.

Next, you will visit Craft Kitchen, a spice maker in Kamishihoro Town. Here you can try making your own blend of spices, then enjoy a lunch featuring dishes made with Sekiguchi Farm’s Oribe Beans.

After lunch, you will move to Memuro Town in central Tokachi, going up the Shin-Arashiyama Sky Park Observatory to admire a panoramic view of the vast Tokachi plain with its patchwork farm fields.

Memuro Town is the largest producer of sweet corn in Japan. Your next stop in the town is Takano Farm, where you will take a walk along their corn fields and learn about its cultivation. If you visit during the harvesting period, you can even try picking the sweet corn or other seasonal vegetables.

All the walking is sure to make you hungry, so before the end of the tour, you can savor a delicious dinner in the middle of a corn field. Make your own hamburger with buns made from Tokachi wheat, a patty made from Memuro Ushi beef, and various local vegetables. You can also enjoy it with French fries made from different varieties of Tokachi potato.
