Tokachi Sukiyaki Quest
This is a 3D2N quest-type tour where your mission is to make a delicious sukiyaki beef hot pot by gathering exquisite ingredients from around Tokachi. Some of the food that you can enjoy include A5-grade Tokachi Naitai Wagyu beef, the award-winning leeks of Takenaka Farm, and locally-made Japanese sake that goes well with sukiyaki. You can also enjoy various activities such as tofu-making, airboarding, and a private snow safari.
The first day begins with a visit to Tokachi Toyama Farm in southern Obihiro City for a tofu-making activity. Experience the traditional way of making tofu using the black soybeans harvested by the farm. After the tofu-making, you can help prepare a farm lunch that includes kabocha-dango (pumpkin dumplings) and imo-dango (potato dumplings).
Afterwards, you will visit the Kamikawa Taisetsu Hekiungura Brewery, a brewery situated inside a university and currently the only sake brewery in Tokachi. Here you can learn about their sake-brewing process and taste some of their products. You will also get a bottle of sake that goes well with sukiyaki.
End the first day with a stay at Tokachigawa Onsen, known for its plant-derived moor hot springs that moisturize your skin and warm your body to the core.
Start off the second day with some fun airboarding in the slopes of the Sahoro Resort Ski Area. Airboarding is a winter sport similar to bodyboarding, but is very intuitive and easy to learn. On clear days, you can also enjoy a view of the vast Tokachi plain from the ski slopes.
After enjoying a lunch of soba noodles in Shintoku Town, you will visit Sahoro Shiitake to gather some shiitake mushrooms, an essential ingredient of sukiyaki. You can try picking the shiitake from the logs on your own.
Afterwards, you will visit Takenaka Farm in Otofuke Town to get some of their famous leeks that have won a golden award at the 2024 Japan Hot Pot Vegetable Competition. You can also experience some of the farm work they do in winter.
The highlight of the tour awaits on the final day. Go on a private and exclusive snow safari and Wagyu glamping tour at the Naitai Highland Farm. You will first go onboard a caterpillar-tracked vehicle that will take you to the summit of the farm.
At the summit, you can wallow in the snow with various activities like snowshoe trekking and a snowmobile ride.
After the snow activities, you will go to a specially-constructed glamping tent to finally savor the sukiyaki you have been questing for. The sukiyaki is made with A5-grade Tokachi Naitai Wagyu beef, as well as the other exquisite ingredients you gathered during the tour. It’s a lavish dish filled with the highest-quality ingredients of Tokachi.
